The goal of this project is to find the ancestors and descendants of the McColgans who are related to Phillip McColgan and entered America from Ireland via New Orleans in the 1850s.

Right now this project just has one member, me. I am S. Walton.

Here are some of the tasks that I think need to be done. I'll be working on them, and could use your help.

  • determine whether Phillip had any other relatives in New Orleans or the larger U.S. and add them to the family tree.
  • confirm the origins of this line of McColgans. From my previous research via the Irish Times, it appears that the surname was concentrated in Northern Ireland during the time from 1848-1864, particularly in Counties Donegal and Tyrone.
  • document where the descendants wound up as they married and migrated away from New Orleans (for example, daughter Mary Rebecca moved to San Antonio, Texas and all her children fanned out from there).

Will you join me? Please post a comment here on this page, in G2G using the project tag, or send me a private message. Thanks!
