4218 Walden Ave.

Harry Ripa, founder of Ripa's Restaurant, opened his first business in the late 1940s on Main Street in Depew, where he developed a recipe for stuffed shrimp that remains a popular item today.

In 1954, he purchased the present location at Walden (known at Ellicott Rd. then) and Pavement at Public auction. He renovated the old District 5 schoolhouse that stood on the site.

In 1966, following the sudden and untimely death of Ripa, the business continued under the ownership of his nephews, Ray and Ennio. They expanded and remodeled three times, including in 1987 when a 300-guest banquet ballroom was added. What started as a small restaurant with 20 seats in 1955 can today serve 250. For decades Ripa's has enjoyed a reputation for its homemade Italian food served with a spirit of great hospitality.(1)
