Description

The 1940 U.S. Census enumeration district 69-27 in Kansas consisted of the incorporated city of Edmond in Solomon Township, Norton County. Sheet 2-A, according to the date on sheet 1-B, was enumerated on April 3, 1940. The Thompson family is listed on lines 12–15, with supplementary questions for line 14.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

Rex Thompson, age 25, and his wife Juliet (Marie), age 31, were both born in Kansas. They were renting their home in Edmond for what appears to be $10.00 a month. (The census enumerator didn't write these responses consistently.) Their residence in 1935 was simply recorded as “rural”.

The couple were both clerks at a grocery store. Rex worked 72 hours during the week of March 24–30, 1940, while Marie worked 30 hours. Rex reported working all 52 weeks in 1939 and earned $1000, and Marie worked 30 weeks and earned $200. Neither earned any income from sources other than wages or salary.

Rex and Marie’s two oldest children were living with them. They were both still too young to attend school.
