WikiTree Sourcer, Search WikiTree for sources used

In WikiTree Sourcer under the "Search WikiTree" menu item (click on the ">" to see the submenu) there is now a way to search all WikiTree profiles for references to the current record or person page. This is a rather experimental feature.

NOTE: this search relies on the WikiTree Plus indexing. This runs once a week so if the sources were added to the WikiTree profile less than a week or so ago then this search will not find them.

It is available on FindAGrave, Ancestry and FamilySearch.

Ancestry

When on an Ancestry record page or person page, in the Sourcer Search WikiTree submenu, there is an item "Search for WikiTree profiles with a template referencing this record". For records that contain links to records for other people mentioned in the record there will also be an item "Search for WikiTree profiles with templates for this record or related records".

This will search all WikiTree profiles for ones that are using a template ( e.g. {{Ancestry Record|1234|12345678}} to reference this page (or this page and linked pages).

This can be useful to see if this record is being used on WikiTree - it might help in the prevention of duplicates.

However, it has two limitations:

1. It only finds profiles where the template is used. If a profile references this record/person via a link rather than the template then it will not be found (this is due to how WikiTree+ does indexing).
2. It will only find templates that use the same form of the database ID. On Ancestry each database has two different IDs - a number and a text string. E.g.: the 1841 England & Wales Census is is both: "8978" and "uki1841".

FamilySearch

When on a FamilySearch record page or person page, in the Sourcer Search WikiTree submenu, there is an item "Search for WikiTree profiles with a template referencing this record". For records that contain links to records for other people mentioned in the record there will also be an item "Search for WikiTree profiles with templates for this record or related records".

This will search all WikiTree profiles for ones that are using a template ( e.g. {{FamilySearch Record|Q2ML-KFWJ}} to reference this page (or this page and linked pages).

This can be useful to see if this record is being used on WikiTree - it might help in the prevention of duplicates.

However, it has a big limitation:

• It only finds profiles where the template is used. If a profile references this record/person via a link rather than the template then it will not be found.

FindAGrave

When on a FindAGrave memorial page, in the Sourcer Search WikiTree submenu, there is an item "Search for WikiTree profiles with a template referencing this record".

Selecting this should find any WikiTree profile that links to this memorial page. In fact, it doesn't matter whether it is using a template or not so this menu item is slightly misleading in this case.

The reason it can find links as well as templates is that WikiTree+ has special support for indexing/searching FindAGrave references.
