This is a transcription of the original will of Thomas Andrewes Esquire of Barnes, Worcestershire. Thomas drew up his will on 16 May 1636 when he was in good health, with a codicil added on 15 August 1636 (12 Caroli I). The will was proved at the Consistory Court of Worcester on 21 February 1636/7. [1]

Andrewes of Barnes in the County of Worcester
Esqr beinge well in health and perfect memory
(I prayse God) yet consideringe the frayle and
fickle condition of man, and the uncertainty of
the tyme of my death doe make this my last
will and testament in manner & forme follow=
inge. First I com[m]end my Soule to my heavenly
Father and my body to my Mother earth whereof
it is made in an assured hope of a glorious
resurrection And as touchinge & as touchinge [2]
the worldly goodes whereof it hath pleased God to
make me his unprofitable Steward I give and
bequeath the same in manner followinge
First
I doe give & bequeath unto my Sonne Jonathan
& his heires for ever All that close of Land &
pasture w[hi]ch I bought of John Collins lyinge in
Whittingdon in the County of Worcester provided
allwayes & I doe notwithstandinge give to my
wife Elizabeth the one moytie thereof duringe
her life
Item I give and bequeath to my good
wife Elizabeth Andrewes as much goodes and
houshold stuffe as shall amount to the sume of
fifty pounds or fifty pounds in mony at her
election
Item I give and confirme unto her
for her life the one moitie of my house and
Lands in St Peters parish, requestinge my sonne
Jonathan to confirme it likewise and well she
deserveth that and all other possible duty and
love from him, who hath beene as loving &
tender a Mother to him as ever was, And I
hope I shall not need to incite him to endeavour
(though he will never be able) to requite her
love and performe all filiall offices unto her
worthy such a mother

bequeath unto Henry Andrewes my youngest
sonne three hundreth pounds of lawfull mony
of England to be paid unto him at his age of
fower & twenty yeares, And if he dye before
then I give said cccLi to my sonnes

and my three sonnes in law each of them a
peece of gold of xxs to buy each of them a ringe

I give & bequeath to my Sonne in Law Mr
George Streete all such bonds & debts as are due
& owinge unto mee by my brother Burgoyne
Item I give unto every one of my grandchildren
xs a peece to buy each of them a bible.

w[i]thin & w[i]thout the Citty of Worcester the sume
of vLi of lawfull mony of England to be
distributed amongst them im[m]ediately after my
death
Item I give to Thomas Andrewes my
grandchild my signett ringe, and after the death
of my sonne Jonathan if he survive his Father
I give and bequeath unto the said Thomas all
my table boords & Cupboords & bedsteeds, remay=
ninge & beinge in & about my now dwellinge
house to remaine as heire lomes, hopinge my
sonne Jonathan will leave him the said house
& lands thereunto belonginge, w[hi]ch I intreate
him to doe if the Lord make him able.

I give and bequeath unto my sonne Thomas
Andrewes the sume of xx<su>Li</sup> of lawfull mony
of England. All the rest of my goodes
cattells & Chattells my corne on the ground
& in the barne (all the stock on my lands
beinge myne as will appeare by Covenants
betweene Robert Savadge & my selfe) my
debts & legacies aforesaid first payd I give
& bequeath unto my Sonne Jonathan whome
I make full & sole Executor of this my
last will & testament, chardginge him as hee
will answer me before the tribunal of
Christ Jesus, that what in him lyeth he will see
this my will performed and fulfilled In
witnesse whereof I have heereunto putt my
hand & seale the xvjth day of Maij Anno D[omi]ni
1636, And I doe revoke all former wills
by this my p[re]senc [torn page] written all w[i]th myne owne
hand w[i]th theis interlininge & none other vizt
theise words (and if he dye before them I give
the said cccLi to my sonnes Jonathan & Thomas
equally to be devided) betweene the 27th and 28th
line on the B side of the first leafe and theise

testament, desiringe her to see what in her lyeth

mony to pay my sonne Henries legacye be first
raysed before any other legacy, for soe I ordayne
it because it is all that ever I gave him
for his portion, the rest of my children have had
such portions, as I was able to give them
Debts I owe none that I know of, I am sure I
owe none unlesse (happily) some trifles may be
owinge for to some artificers in Worc[este]r w[hi]ch I know not of
