William was born in 1880. He was the son of Will Speer and Alice Chapman. He passed away in 1960.

Winters, Texas, Friday, May 20, 1960

William Henry Speer, 80 pioneer resident of Winters, died Tuesday morning following an illness of only a few days.

A native Texan, Mr. Speer was born January 25, 1880 at Elmont. He moved with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Speer, to Runnels County in 1900 settling one mile east of Winters, where he lived until his death.

He was a member of the Winters First Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Spill Memorial Chapel with the Rev. E. L. Craig, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. The Rev. Leslie Ellison, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, assisted. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters. Mrs. Roy Kump of San Angelo. Mrs. Jim Clement of Limon, Ohio; five sons, H. L. Speer of Winters, H. E. Speer, Ruidosa, N. M., Leon Speer of Crowell, Jack Speer of Haskell, Edwin Speer, a major in the U. S. Air Force, stationed at Mountain Home, Idaho; one sister, Mrs. H. M. Roberts of Winters, one brother, George Speer of San Angelo; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Clifford Huffman, Pete Davidson, Loyd Wilkerson, Claude Tatum, Tab Hatler, and Floyd Grant.
