"In the top tracery are a pelican and one or two other devices, and below are represented the arms of Nicholas Arundell of Trerys, as a legend underneath states, and Elizabeth his wife, daughter and heiress of Martin Pellor. This Nicholas was the father of Sir John Arundell of Trerice, whose son Nicholas married Joan St. John, the heiress of the manors of Luccombe and Selworthy." [1]
"Joan St. John, heir to her brother, William. By indenture 6 April, 17 Edw. II, 1477, she settled the manors of Luccombe and Selworthy on Alicia, widow of her brother William, for her life. She died 5 June, 1482. Inq. dated as follows: Somerset, 26 July, 22 Edw. IV, no. 48. Devon, 29 and 31 July, same year; ad. 1482." [2]
"Joan died 5th June 1482. Robert Arundell, son of John, son of said Joan next heir aged 15" [3]
N.B.: Joan was said to be 27 and upwards in her brother William's i.p.m. in 1473, but this must be a mistranscription.
