Biography

Katherine was the daughter of Nicholas St. John of Lydiard Tregoze,Wiltshire.^[1][2][3][4]

Her year of birth is unknown.

She married Edmond Richmond alias Webb of Rodbourne Cheney, Wiltshire.^[1][2][3]

"In the church of Lydiard Tregoze is a monument to Sir Nicholas St. John with the shields of his daughters' husbands etc., among them the Richmond alias Webb cross and mullets".^[5]

The Inquisition Post Mortem for her husband Edmond Richmond als Webb, was taken at Trowbridge, Wiltshire, on 25 Sept 19 James 1 (1621). It referred to his manor of Overraughton alias Wroughton which he had conveyed in 1613 to his son and heir, Oliver, and to Oliver's wife, Mary, daughter of Nicholas Fuller, Esq. deceased. It noted Edmund's sons Richard Webb als Richmond, John Webb als Richmond gent, and Thomas Webb als Richmond. It also referred to Edmund's lands in Rodbourne Cheney, Haydon, Haydon Weeke and Moorden, which after his death were to pass to his wife Katherine for her life and after her death to his sons. Edmund died on 26 March 17 James 1 (1619?) at Rodbourne Cheney, Wiltshire, and his son and heir Oliver Webbe was 38 years and upwards at time of his father's death and that his wife Katherine survived him and lived at Rodbourne Cheney. It also referred to Edmund as the son of Thomas Webb and grandson of William Webb.^[6][7]

[Note: If Oliver was born abt 1581, perhaps Katherine was born around 1565).

"Edmond died intestate, but the will of his wife Katherine is famous for the amount of genealogical material it contains, Katherine had many children, who married into the Maskelyn, Blount, Nicholas and other old Wilts families. She died in 1635 at just about the same time as her eldest son Oliver who was once wounded in an affray in 1612, and left a fine collection of arms to his nephews. His brother, Colonel John was his heir and followed his uncle, Lord Grandison, to Ireland and acquired lands there. He was twice married and had quite a large family, but, dying in 1641, did not long survive his brother Oliver."^[5]

H I Richmond transcribed her will dated 04 Feb 1634/1635 and proved 08 May 1635.^[8][9]
