Biography

Josiah's birth was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1839 in the Isle of Wight district, Hampshire, England. His parents were not married but his birth was registered with his father's surname, but mother's LNAB not recorded.[1]

Josiah was baptised on 6 October 1839 in St Helens, Hampshire, England. His name was recorded as Josiah Rowland Stamp Southcott, and only his mother was named in the record.[2][3]

In the 1841 census Rowland (age 2) was with his mother and her family in St Helens, Hampshire, England.[4]

Josiah's parents married in February 1842.[5]

In the 1851 census Rowland (age 12), Scholar, was with his paternal grandparetns Charles Stamp (abt.1786-) and Mary at St Helens Green, St Helens, Hampshire, England.[6]

In the 1861 census Josiah (age 21), Mariner, was a unmarried lodger of John Midlane in Brighton, Sussex, England.[7]

Josiah, son of Josiah Stamp, married Ann Blow on 30 August 1862 in Ryde, Hampshire, England.[8][9][10]
