Biography

Private Henry Standage served with the Iowa Volunteers during the Mexican-American War

Henry was the son of William Standage and Elizabeth Howard. He was both a storeKeeper and a farmer. He married Sophronia Armenia Scott in 1845. Henry Standage was a private in Company E of the Mormon Battalion, serving in the Mexican-American War. He completed the journey to California and was discharged at Los Angeles, July 16, 1847.
Henry made his first trip to the Salt Lake Valley in 1847, coming east from California with a number of other Mormon Battalion veterans. The following year, he drove east from Salt Lake City to assist Kimball's Company as a teamster.
According to his Family Search biography, Henry founded Stringtown in Mesa County.
