Biography

Prisgrave was born about 1750. He was the son of William Steel.

In 1771, Prisgrave witnessed the will of Daniel Steel, showing that he was of age to be a legal witness.[1] In that year, Prisgrave's father mortgaged property which Prisgrave was farming at the time -- "in possession of."[2]

Prisgrave's daughter Toley Steal was born on 11 February 1778 in Indian River Hundred, Sussex, Delaware, United States.[3]

Prisgrave was made co-executor of his father, William Steel's will in 1779.[4]

In 1782, Prisgrave was a witness to the will of Thomas Pettyjohn.

In 1783, he was ordered to provide a final accounting for his father's estate.[5]

Prisgrave was named in a legal record on 3 August 1791. l.[6]

“Whereas a certain William Steel late of the County afs’d” left property in Broadkiln Hundred to his wife Betty Steel during her natural life. And the said Betty Steel on 24 November 1783, became a debtor to Prisgrave Steel for £100. And Prisgrave Steel was in debt for £80.3.2 to William Colman Gumm. On 4 Feb 1789, sheriff Thomas Evans Esquire ordered a sheriff’s sale of Prisgrave Steel’s property in the hands of Elizabeth Steel and Nehemiah Read. Property now sold to Zechariah Pettyjohn. 3 August 1791, deed recorded.
