Thomas Stephens was baptised on 1 November 1812 at Mawgan-in-Meneage, Cornwall, England, his parents recorded as Thomas and Elisabeth Stephens.

Thomas married Mary Ann Ford on 28 July 1835 at St Martin, Cornwall: the register recorded: "Thomas Stephens of Mawgan and Mary Ann Ford of St Martin" were married with consent of parents. Thomas signed the register and Mary Ann made her mark with a cross. Witnesses were John Stephens, and John Cusbert[?] who witnessed most of the marriages.[2]
In the 1841 census, Thomas (age 25-29), agricultural labourer, lived at Gear Bridge in Mawgan in Meneage with Mary Stephens (age 25-29) and two daughters: Grace (3) and Mary (1).[3]
In the 1851 census, Thomas age 37, agricultural labourer, was living at Mawgan Cross in Mawgan in Meneage, with his wife Maryann Stevens (age 37, Ag Labrs Wife) and six children: Grace F (13), Mary (11), Peter F (8), John (6), William (3), and Thomas H (5 months).[4][5][6]
The family moved to Germoe by the time their daughter Susan was born in 1853.[7]
Death: Thomas Stephens died in 1854 at Germoe and was buried at Mawgan In Meneage on 3 December 1854. The burial register recorded his name as Thomas Stevens, age 42, abode "Gurmoe".
