Robert Steven is named as the father of Jane Steven, baptised in Watten, on 4 October 1835.[1] His place of residence on the baptism record is East Watten.[2]
In 1841 Robert and his wife Janet alongside three children (Margaret, Ann and Alexander) are recorded on the census as living in East Watten. Robert's trade was "farmer". [3]
In 1851 Robert and Janet were recorded on the census as living at the Tails of Watten (same location as East Watten) where he was a labourer of 3 acres. Living with the couple were their daughters Margaret, Janet, Ann, Christian, and four grandchildren, Alexander McIvor, Alexandrina Manson, Hannah McIvor and Colin McDonald.[4] The precise relationship of some of these grandchildren to Robert and Janet is to be confirmed.
