Biography

Virginia, daughter of James W. Stevens and Florence D. Trott, was born 23 February 1903 in Portage County, Ohio.[1] In 1910 her parents James W. (age 39, painter) and Florence D. Stevens (33, mother of two, both living) owned a home at 443 Carthage Avenue in Franklin Township, Portage County, where they lived with Virginia C. (7), her brother Marvin F. (12), Virginia's widowed grandmother Virginia Trott (67, mother of eight, five living), and a boarder named Sarah C. Ginther (16).[2]

In 1920 her father James W. (age 49) was the Portage County sheriff and rented quarters for himself and his family at the county jail in Ravenna Township.[3] Sharing quarters with Sheriff Stevens were Florence D. (45, county jail matron), Marvin F. (21, civil engineer) and Virginia C. Stevens (16), and her widowed grandmother Virginia Trott (79), and five prisoners Daniel Sherer (46, b. New Jersey, house painter), Anda Codinsky (31, b. Austria), Anna Kopchak (29, b. Austria), Kattie Kopchak (three months), and Jack Raible (25, German-born truck driver).[3]

Before 1930, Virginia married Forrest D. Robenstine,[4] son of Perry Robenstine and Sadie June Cole[5] They do not appear to have had any children.

After their marriage, Forrest D. (age 28, city water works worker) and Virginia K. Robenstine (27, file clerk in surgery office) lived with her parents James W. (58, railroad watchman) and Florence D. Stevens (51) in Franklin township, Portage County in 1930.[6] The couples stayed together during their move to Kent, Franklin Township in 1940, when the household was composed of James W. (age 70, retired) and Florence Stevens (63), plus Forrest D. (37, repairer for city waterworks) and Virginia K. Robenstine (37).[7]

Virginia died 3 June 1969 in Ravenna Township[1][8] and was buried in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.[9]
