Thought to be daughter of Nicholai Stevens (1576-?). Children said to be John Sherman (1664), Martha (1666-1669), Edmund (1669-?) - all born in Dedham.
Her husband Edmund married as a widower, his second wife; Grace Stevens of Stratford, Essex on 8 Dec 1656. (There is no indication he ever left England) He was a "clothier" as were several of the Shermans listed in the Calendar of Wills in the Canterbury Prerogative Court. Edmund was mentioned on a memorial in St. Mary the Virgin Churchyard, Dedham, Colchester Borough, Essex, England with a death date of 28 May 1673.[1]His will dated 11 Apr 1673, and proved 28 May 1673, names his wife Grace and makes her Executrix. There were three children, John, Martha & Edmund. A portion of the will transcript can be read at Sherman Family.
Alternate sources claim that Edmund Sherman was born in 1599-1673. Married twice - first to a Sarah Paynter (1600-1656), second to Grace Stevens (1629-1713). Secondary sources.
We Relate claims that Edmund married Grace Stevens on 12/08/1656 in Dedham, Essex.
Husband Edmund was baptized at Dedham, 23 Jun or Oct, 1599. He married 2 Nov 1648, Dengle, Essex, to his first wife Sarah Paynter who was buried, Dedham, 8 Sep 1656. Second wife: Grace Stevens b. 1629 Baptised 11 Oct 1629 at Stratford St Mary, Suffolk, England buried 23 Mar 1713 Dedham, Essex. Married 8 Dec 1656.[2]NB: I have changed the date of birth to reflect British History / Essex date of 1629 rather than 9 Apr 1596. It is unlikely she lived more than 100 years.
