Biography

ABIEL STEVENS, born at Andover, 24 Mar 1749/50 son of John Stevens and Lydia Gray;^[1] Abiel died at Strafford, Vermont, 1806 (probate 31 Mar 1806).^[2] He married first at Andover on 16 Nov 1769,^[3] his third cousin, TABITHA HOLT, born at Andover, 19 May 1753 daughter of Jacob Holt and Margaret Dolliver;^[4] Tabitha died at Andover, 23 Sep 1778.^[5] Abiel married second at Andover on 7 Jan 1779,^[6] his second cousin once removed, ELIZABETH HOLT, born at Andover, 14 Nov 1752 daughter of Nathaniel Holt and Elizabeth Stevens.^[7]

Abiel Stevens resided in Andover and all his children were born there. Later in life, he and his second wife Elizabeth relocated to Strafford, Vermont where his son Jacob had settled.

The estate of Abiel Stevens of Strafford entered probate on 31 March 1806 with Elizabeth Stevens as administratrix, but the inventory or distribution were not in the available probate records.^[8]
