Biography

Mary was born about 1841, Fort William, Inverness-shire, Scotland. Parents are unknown at this time....

1871 District Hutchesontown, Lanark, Mary is about 30 years old and found in the household of Hector McLean Morrison with his stepdaughter Hariet McLean Morrison & son William McLean Morrison and Mary C Stewart's children with Hector, they being Janet & Hugh .

1873 Mary C Stewart and Hector have twins both born on the 15 December Alexander Morrison only survives for 3 days and died on the 18th and Mary Morrison, only survives for 5 days she died on the 20th December.

1876 Stepdaughter Hariet McLean Morrison died, she was about 17 years old. Parents were recorded as Father William McLean Morrison, Occupation Cabinet Maker Journeyman, mother Mary Morrison Previously Dow m.s. Stewart. Informant Mary Morrison her x mark mother ( Present).

Note: An entanglement of names has occurred on death the register, between Hariets biological mother Mary Dow and Stepmother Mary Stewart, Hariet's biological mother Mary Dow died in 1861, and her biological father another twist, William, is possibly Hectors brother.

1881 Residence 10 Carfin Street, Govan, Lanark. Mary Stewart age 40 years is recorded as a ( Servt ) unmarried in the Household of |Hector McLean age about 56 a widow and their 2 children. Janet Morrison age 14, occupation Message Girl, birthplace Partick, Lanark and |Hugh Morrison age 10, who is attending School ( Scholar ) birthplace Glasgow, Lanark.

1887 Their daughter Janet Morrison marries Charles Jarvie in Tradeston, Glasgow.

1891 Residence Prince Edward Street, Glasgow, Hector M Morrison is about 61 years old and Mary C Stewart is about 50, the couple are still living together, Mary is now recorded under the surname of ( Morrison) . Also in the household is their daughter Janet and son in-law Charles Jarvie.

1894 Hector McLean Morrison, age 65 years, occupation Cabinet maker, usual residence , 20 Prince Edward Street, Glasgow, died due to apoplexy. Recorded as married to Mary Stewart, Informant Janet Jarvie, daughter.

Note: Interesting to note that Mary Stewart is recorded as Hector's wife....... no 1st wife / 2nd wife, there is no mention of Mary Dow . This could be due to Janet not being aware that Mary Stewart and Hector possibly never married and she possibly was not aware of Hectors wife Mary Dow,
