Robert Stimpson was a convict convicted of larceny (stealing money from the pocket of Mr Barber at Loddon) at Norfolk Assizes on 16 October 1844. He was sentenced to ten years transportation and arrived in Van Diemens' Land on board the Mount Stuart Elphinstone on 17 June 1845.
Robert claimed to be a widower with three children at the time of his conviction as well as his marriage in 1851 to Bridget Allen. He gave his age as 40 at the time of his sentencing as well as in 1841; his age at conviction was more likely to have been correct. Robert was five feet four inches tall with dark brown hair and whiskers, grey eyes and a large double chin. His arms were said to be hairy while he was "inclined to be bald". Robert had also been convicted before.
Robert said he was a labourer who came from Langley, near Lodden, in Norfolk. The indent records showed the names of his mother and siblings and stated that they were all living in Langley.
Robert's conduct on board ship was good. He committed a few minor offences during his servitude but he obtained a conditional pardon in June 1853.
