William George Stokes was born on August 3, 1873 in Georgetown, Halton, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of John Stokes and Agnes Jane "Jane" Trew.[1]
In the 1881 census William (age 7) was living with his father John (age 49, farmer), mother Agnes J (age 40) and seven siblings in Chinguacousy, Peel, Ontario, Canada. Their faith was Church of England.[2]
In the 1891 census William (age 17) was in Chinguacousy, Peel, Ontario, Canada.[3]
William (age 22, bachelor, laborer), son of John Stokes & Jane Trew, married Frances Josephine Kinsella (age 20, spinster, born Ireland) on June 6, 1897 in Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada. They were both residing in Parry Sound and their faith was Church of England. Witnesses were Frank and Caroline Paradis of Parry Sound. The wedding service was provided by S. Childerhose and they were married by license.[4] His children were:
William's daughter Mary Violet Stokes was born on 2 April 1900 in Peel, Ontario, Canada.[5] Mary died young, as she is not in the 1901 census with her parents William and Frances.
In the 1901 census Wm (age 30) was living with his wife Frances (age 28) in Alberta, The Territories, Canada. They had two lodgers staying with them.[6] They had a son William John Stokes, born in Alberta in 1902. After that they migrated west to British Columbia, Canada, where they had a son Robert in 1906 in the central Okanagan region. Their daughter Emily was born in Kamloops, British Columbia in 1907, and then their daughter Alma was born in New Westminter, British Columbia.
In the 1911 census William was living with his wife Fanny (age 33), and children: William J (age 10), Robert C (age 7), Emily (age 4) and Alma Stokes (age 1) in New Westminster Sub-Districts 1-20, British Columbia, Canada.[7]
In the 1921 census, William G (age 45, farmer) was living with his wife Francis (age 44) and six children: John (age 18), Robert C (age 15), Emily (age 12), Alma (age 9) and two daughters (ages 7 and 8/12) in Surrey, New Westminster, British Columbia.[8]
William died on March 10, 1931 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, aged 57. W was mentioned on a memorial in Ocean View Burial Park, Burnaby, Greater Vancouver Regional District, British Columbia, Canada with a death date of 1931.[9]
