Biography

Martha was born about 1837 in South Carolina.^[1] By 1850, the family was living in Gordon Co., Georgia.^[1] Martha married Balus Green on April 18, 1875 in Gordon Co., Georgia.^[2] The couple had no children. And Martha apparently died before 1880 since Balos was listed as a widower on the 1880 census.^[3]

It is unlikely Martha died prior to 1880. The marriage to Balous was not a harmonious one. It has been noted that Martha did not remain with Balous long before returning to the house of her brother. She was significantly younger and Balous was a widower from his first wife. This info is supported by sources attached to Balous.
