Obituary

Carol Anne (Stoner) Scarpino

After almost three years, Carol lost her last battle with colon cancer but won the war by going home to her Lord on December 12, 2010. She was born on February 13, 1958 in Canton, Ohio. Preceding her in death were her father Wilbur John Stoner, mother Alice Mae (Stark) Dunn and brother Richard John Stoner. She is survived by her husband, Joseph R. Scarpino, brothers Dale (Jean) Stoner, Thomas (Linda) Stoner, sisters Susan (Tom) Beattie, Wendy Huguenot, Paula Dunn Lint and 'almost' sister-in-law Debbie Hill. She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, step-children and step-grandchildren.

Carol's courage through this fight was an inspiration to all who knew her. Always first to help someone in need, she especially appreciated the opportunities she had for witnessing to her faith as an operating room nurse at Aultman Hospital. As evidenced by the overwhelming support and generosity the OR staff have provided to Carol and her family, Carol was not only respected but loved by her co-workers. Thank you to all the staff and doctors who have supported her through her struggle.

She as active in the Association for Operating Room Nurses, Aultman School of Nursing Alumni, and was responsible for establishing the Happy Tails dog visitation program at the hospital. Carol was very involved in activities at Church of the Lakes United Methodist, including the choir, board of trustees, Royal Family Kids Camp, numerous bible study groups, Indian River Correctional Facility outreach, Sierra Leone water project and Emmaus, to name a few. Thank you to the choirs and Monday night bible study class for their special gift to Carol. Closest to Carol's heart was her work with the Ohio Greyhound Gathering, having adopted five rescued greyhounds over the years. A special thanks to Rose, Wendy and Connie, her fellow greyhound 'divas', for their love and support. At Carol's request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial celebration of life service will be held at Church of the Lakes United Methodist on Sunday, December 19th at 2PM, followed by a gathering of friends and family in the church activity center to share their stories of Carol. In lieu of flowers, Carol has requested donations be made to OGG (Ohio Greyhound Gathering) and sent c/o Wendy Eaton, 3116 Pinevale, Louisville, Ohio 44641.[2]
