Biography
Thomas was born on the 16th of April 1940. [1]
He attended Eaton College and Balliol College, obtaining a Masters degree in History.[1]
He worked in banking until the death of his father in 1976. He joined the House of Lords, and was appointed Privy Counsellor in 1998, the same year he was knighted Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order. He became Lord in Waiting to Queen Elizabeth II from 1992 to 1997, and created Permanent Lord in Waiting in 2000.
From 1998 to his retirement in 2000 (due to ill health), he was appointed Lord Chamberlain. Thomas was the first Roman Catholic Lord Chamberlain since 1530. [1]
