Biography

Herman F. Strecker, 92, passed away at home on October 5, 2010, in Mesquite, Nevada, with his loving wife, Jean, by his side.

He was born August 21, 1918 at the Strecker Ranch on Roberts Island, California. He married Jean Cox of Linden, California, in Carson City, Nevada, on October 22, 1938. They raised four daughters on Roberts Island, where Herman was a rancher for several years. He was a charter member of the San Joaquin Hay Growers Association and was a member of the California Highway Patrol AuxiliaryAssociation Stocton Squad, Flying Farmers of America, and a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He was an accomplished aerobatics pilot and crop duster.

After moving his family to Lake Tahoe he served many years as a member of the Douglas County Sheriffs' Posse Search and Rescue Operations and was also a member of the Douglas County Volunteer Fire Department. After retirement he enjoyed many trips with his family. His greatest enjoyment in life was his family, aviation, travel, and his Labrador dogs.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Jean Strecker. He is also survived by four daughters; Karen Derby, Vivian Thacker, and Janice Doherty, all of Mesquite, and Terry Noonkester of Myrtle Creek, Oregon. He is also survived by six grandchildren; William Ray Derby, Kathryn Cranston, Jason LaFave, Michele Clark, John Enewold and Wendy Clary; seven great-grandchildren and three great- great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman F. Strecker Sr., Frieda J. Lehman Strecker, one brother and three sisters: Martha Strecker, Agness Haack, Arnold Strecker and Florence Allen. Funeral Services were held at Virgin Valley Mortuary and internment was at Mesquite City Cemetery on October 8, 2010.
