  10. Source: #S1 from the Rushville Times of 15 Jan 1914: Mrs. Elizabeth Spillers -- Miss Elizabeth Strong was born Aug. 16, 1831 in Columbiana county, Ohio, and died Jan. 10, 1914, at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 25 days. Her parents moved to Illinois when she was a little girl, settling in Schuyler county, where she lived till the day of her death. She was married to John Spillers March 31, 1847. To them were born ten children, of whom three are dead. Those living are George L., Manda, Henry N., Melinda, Ross, Stephen and Mark. Seventeen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren also survive. John Spillers died Jan 8, 1905. Shortly after his death Aunt Betty (that was what we all called her) bought property near Pleasantview, where she has resided ever since. Aunt Betty was baptized when she was a little girl. But while she never made any great pretention in a religious way she did what is far better. She lived a good life, helping and serving her friends, and speaking ill of none. Of late years she has seldom been able to leave her home on account of age and affliction but she has been a patient sufferer. On Tuesday, January 6, she ate dinner with her son Henry and that is the last time she ever left her home. She was the last of a family of ten that left Ohio many years ago. She leaves behind her children, relatives and friends who will ever remember her as a faithful friend and a good neighbor, always ready to share her blessings with any who came her way. Funeral services were held Monday morning at her late home, conducted by Rev. Fred Wilson; interment in the Messerer cemetery. ... In another column: Pleasantview - Mark Spillers of Macomb came down Friday evening to see his mother, who died a few hours later with pneumonic fever. The obituary will appear in another column.
