Hobert was born in 1900, the son of Clinton Sulfridge and Susan Brooks. (His death certificate erroneously listed the year as 1899.)
He worked as a coal miner. In Dec. 1945, he was involved in the Belva #1 mine disaster. He was entombed in the mine with many of the other miners.
