Biography

Keith Donald Sullivan was born in 1919 at Bordertown, South Australia. His parents were Mr and Mrs Joseph James Sullivan. ^[1]

Keith Donald Sullivan married Irene Lorraine Fryar on 24th July 1940 at the Methodist Church, Wolseley, South Australia. It was a double wedding with Lorraine's sister Betty. Their marriage was announced in "The Advertiser" on Saturday 20th July 1940.

"Fryar—Sullivan.—The marriage of Lorraine, third daughter of Mr. S. W. Fryar, of Wolseley, to Donald, only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Sullivan, of Bordertown, will be solemnised at the Methodist Church, Wolseley, on the 24th of July, at 7 p.m." ^[2]

Keith Donald Sullivan was killed in a level crossing accident on 30th August 1954 at Tailem Bend, South Australia, Australia. The fatality was reported in "The Advertiser" on Wednesday 1st September 1954.

Fatal Crash At Level Crossing

"A Bordertown man was fatally injured and his four-year-old son hurt when a car and a train collided at a level crossing about a mile south of Tailem Bend on Monday night. The victim, Keith Donald Sullivan, 35, died in the Tailem Bend Hospital about an hour after the crash. The train, a fast freight to Serviceton, was travelling at about 30 m.p.h. when it struck the car on the driver's side. Mr. F. M. Telford and his wife, of Mount Gambier, who were driving behind, Sullivan's new closed car saw it thrown off the line by the engine and across the road.

Police measurements showed that it had been thrown nearly 20 yards by the impact. Mr. Telford pulled the injured boy from the wreckage, and he was rushed to hospital. Dr. J. R. Coates, of Tailem Bend, treated the father on the accident site. Sullivan's neck was broken and he died later in hospital. The injured boy suffered shock and lacerations, and was discharged from hospital yesterday afternoon.
Well-Known
Mr. Sullivan, who was born at Bordertown and lived in the district all his life was chief fire officer of the Tatiara district. He was a member of the Tatiara Pastoral and Agriculture Society and the Bordertown Institute. Mr. Sullivan, who was proprietor of an electrical goods shop, leaves a wife and three children. His funeral will leave the Bordertown Methodist Church for the Bordertown Cemetery at 3.30 p.m. today." ^[3]

He was buried on 1st September 1954 at Bordertown Cemetery, South Australia, Australia. ^[4]
