Biography
Bertie was born on 11 October 1879 and was baptised on 1 February 1880 at Verulam, Colony of Natal[1]. He was the son of John Swales and Sarah Martha Sparks.
He married Ruby Carlyle Sparks on 21 October 1909 at the Congregational Church in Sydenham, Durban, Natal, after Banns[2]. Bertie was a farmer of Sydenham.
They had at least three children.
He passed away in 1939 at the age of 63 due to Valvular Disease of the Heart[3].
Intended place of burial was at the Cemetery in Ladysmith, Natal.
