Elizabeth, 4th wife of Henry Richman of Christian Malford, Wiltshire
Elizabeth 'Sidnam' was baptised on 01 Apr 1610 at Cherhill, Wiltshire, daughter of Mr Henry Sidnam.[1]
Her mother was presumably Jane Harold, daughter of William Harold of Cherhill, Wiltshire.[2] Henry 'Sidnam' had married Jane 'Harould' in February 1607/1608 at Clyffe Pypard, Wiltshire.[3][4]
Her father Henry Sydenham, gent, was later resident at Langley Fitzurse, Kington St Michael, Wiltshire.[5]
In the will of her father Henry Sydenham, gent, of 'Langlye Fitzhurse' [in the parish of Kington St Michael, Wiltshire, close to the parish of Christian Malford], dated 19 March 1640/1641, the Testator included a bequest of 10 shillings to his daughter Elizabeth, wife of Henry Richmand.[5]
It is presumed her husband was the Henry Richman of Christian Malford, Wiltshire.
Children of Henry and Elizabeth Richman according to H I Richmond[6] based on the letter of Oliffe Richmond of 1736 and other documentary evidence:
"Elizabeth wife of Mr Henry Richman" was buried on 17 Nov 1660 at Christian Malford, Wiltshire.[9]
It is presumed that the fourth wife of Henry Richman was named Elizabeth as "Elizabeth wife of Mr Henry Richman" was buried on 17 Nov 1660 at Christian Malford, Wiltshire.[10] NB H I Richmond stated it was 17 Nov 1666 - which is an error.[6]
Elizabeth cannot have been the wife of Henry son of Henry of Christian Malford by his first wife as he is presumed to have died during or soon after the Civil War and the manner in which Elizabeth's burial was recorded suggests that her husband Henry was still living in 1660. There was, however, a Henry Richman, son of Henry baptised in 1619 at Lea and Cleverton, the son of Henry Richman by his second wife Alice Jacques. Perhaps he was a second Henry and was the Henry who married Elizabeth, or perhaps he died as a child. There is also of course the possibility that the letter of Oliffe Richmond was mistaken and that the Henry who died during or soon after the Civil War was the son of Henry and his second wife Alice Jacques and hence was the child baptised in 1619.
H I Richmond stated: "As Langley Fitzhurse Manor, Par. of Kingston St. Michael, is only 3 or 4 miles from Christian Malford and both parties of the same social position and I find no other Henry Richmond near, this Eliz. is very likely his wife. I have examined a number of Syd. Wills for clues without success."[6]
