Rose was born on 22 February 1914 in Kayville, Saskatchewan. She was the daughter of Dumitru "Dan" Tatar or Tater and Iowna 'Ionia' Nica Petrescue. Her parents were married in Romania and immigrated to Canada. Rosie had ten siblings.
Rosie married Paul Sawchuk on 16 July 1931 in Regina, Saskatchewan. They lived in Regina and raised several children. He worked as a welder and a machinist. Rose passed away in May 1973 and was buried in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Regina.
