Birth date deduced from burial record, and 1851 census - which match exactly.
Note
First name also spelt Ann or Anna in some records.
Christening
Ann Taylor was baptised in St Mary Benhall on 18 January 1769, daughter of Bishop and Alathea Tayor.[1]
18 JUN 1769
Benhall, Suffolk
Fiches of parish register show this part to be indistinct and damaged. There appears also to have been an Ann christened in 1767, which would have matched other records more closely - could not make out whether parents were the same for both. However, mother's maiden name for this one matches one of Ann's marriage witnesses (presumably a cousin), so this sppears to be the correct parentage.
Parents for this one are Bishop Taylor and Althea(?) Copping, who were married at Benhall by licence on 27.10.1768. Both signed, and witnesses were Beth(?) Miles and Ann Copping. FamilySearch pilot site gives her name as Hether Coper, and states that they were both 21.
No Copping entries found in Benhall register, but I found much of the fiche missing or indecipherable.
Marriage
6 JUL 1795
Benhall, Suffolk
Ann Taylor & James Hillen
Marriage was by banns. Described as bachelor and spinster of this parish. She signed, he made his mark. Witnesses were Benjamin Copping and John Taylor, who both made their marks.[2]
Children's details have all been supplied by the look-up service, from the Friston parish register.
James and the first Samuel were baptised privately, and the first Robert privately, and then publicly a few months later - sadly, he then died of a fit a month after that. William died two days after his baptism. The second Robert had a private baptism, and was 'received into the church' the following year. Father is recorded as a labourer in 1818.
The first three children may have been a year or two old before they were baptised, because William is stated to be 18 months old when he died - or perhaps he was born between James and John. According to the Hillen family website, Mary died in 1875.
