Mary was born in 1810. She was the grand-daughter of Alabama judge William Smith. She married Meredith Calhoun and they had two children together:
William Smith Calhoun (1845)
Marie Marguerite Ada Calhoun (July 1849) who married George Lane.
In September 1865, two letters attached to the Freedmen's Bureau written by her agents, were attempts to retrieve her abandoned property, which she inherited from her grand-father, which the military seized.[1][2]
