Biography

Ann Taylor was born in Scotland about 1814. Most Census records show that she was born in New Deer, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Ann married James Matheison in 1841.

In early 1841 the Taylor family lived at Rothnick (Street?), Fetteresso, Kincardineshire, Scotland. Ann Taylor, 27, born in Kincardineshire about 1814, lived with family, Alexander Taylor, 25, a crofter; and Jean Taylor, 60, b. Kincardineshire about 1781(possibly Ann’s brother and mother?); and Elisabeth Keith, 9. [1]

James Mathieson and Ann Taylor were married on 30 May 1841 in Fetteresso, Kincardineshire, Scotland. [2]

In 1851, the Mathieson family lived on Rodney St. in Stonehaven, Kincardineshire, Scotland. The household included James Mathieson (aged 34), a grocer/merchant; his wife Anne, 37; their children, Janet (Jessie), 8; Alexander, 6 (who doesn’t appear with the family on the 1861 census); Archibald, 5; Mary Ann, 3; and Jean (Jane) E., 1; and a niece, Lillas Matheison, 11, a domestic servant. [3]

In 1861, the Mathieson family lived at 7 Rodney St., Stonehaven, Fetteresso parish, Kincardineshire, Scotland. The family included James Mathieson, 44, a grocer and spirit dealer; his wife Ann, 47; their children, Jessie, 18, a domestic servant; Archibald, 15, a laborer; Mary A., 13, assistant shopkeeper; Jane E., 11, scholar; Margaret, 9, scholar; and Isabella, 7, a scholar. [4]

The property at 7 Rodney St., Stonehaven, Kincardineshire, Scotland sold in august 2011 for £250K. The link has a map, but does not provide photos or any other details about the property, so it is not known if the Matheison family home still stands on that lot. [5]
