Located one mile north of Afton on the Walkertown Road.This is a very old Cemetery, neglected and abandoned. The family living nearest the cemetery have lived there twenty-six years, and say there has not been a burisl in this cemetery since they have resided there.
Dr. Price's History of Holston Methodism, page 247- Vol. II, gives the following:-
"Stone Dam Camp Ground was established in the fall of 1818... In the spring of 1818 Mrs. Milly Thomasson and her six children joined the Methodist Episoepal Church by letter at the Stone Dam Meetinghouse, some half dosen miles east of Greeneville.
John Delaney, Thomas Stanfield and wife and Mary and Rebecca Delaney constituted the entire membership till the Thomassons joined it ..... Between 1818 and 1821 Stone Dam Seciety incrsased from four persons to fifty. Among the early converts were Nathaniel Stanfield, Joseph Johnson and Barten Johnson."
An article quoted by Dr. Price in his History states that in 1833 there were a thousand persens tented on the ground. He says:
"Stone Dam Camp Ground is a place famous in the annals of Holston Methodism."
There are a great many unmarked graves, but inscriptions copied bear the names of the early members referred to by Dr. Price.
