Biography

John was a son of Franklin Newcomer Tice and Catherine Elizabeth Felker. He married Laura Stonebraker in 1881.^[1] John passed away in 1916.

DEATH OF JOHN E. TICE

(Special to the Register-Gazette.)

Mt. Morris, Nov. 18. - John E. Tice, one of the most highly respected citizens of Mount Morris, died at his home yesterday afternoon after an illness of several years duration. It had been known for several days that the end was near but hopes were expressed that he might yet be spared to his family. He was born Dec. 19, 1856, at Haldane, Ill., the son of Frank and Catherine Tice. He was married in 1881 to Laura V. Stonebraker. For years they lived on their farm, about 2 1/2 miles north of town, retiring about 14 years ago because of his health and moving to town, where they have since resided. He was a prominent member of the M. E. church, but had the past few years been able to go out but little. Mr. Tice was universally respected. He is survived by his wife, son Charles, his daughter, Mrs. Lela Allen, five grandchildren, and his aged mother, Mrs. Catherine Tice, now in her 87th year; also by two brothers, Frank and Clegget, and a sister, Mrs. Ida Shaw, all of Mount Morris, and another sister, Mrs. Jennie Peifer of Chicago.^[2]
