Aleijda (Tijssen) Nagelmaeker (1802)

Biography

Aleijda/Lijda Tijssen was born in Prussia in 1802 ^{[1] [2]} to Henrich Tijssen and Maria Willing ^[3]

Aleijda married Joannes Jacobus Nagelmaeker, son of Arnoldus Nagelmaeker and Maria Anna Thuijs, on 3 December 1840 in Nijmegen, Gelderland, Netherlands. She worked as a maid servant, and he was a blacksmith. She was his second wife. ^[4]

A Registration log from Nijmegen, Netherlands in 1850 shows that Joannes Jacobus and Aleijda, along with their children Hendrick and Christina, planned planned to travel to North America in 1853 to live there permanently. ^{[5] [6]}

Aleijda (Tijssen) Nagelmaeker migrated from Netherlands to United States.

Aleijda, Hendrick, and Christina migrated to the United States traveling on a ship named Samoset that departed from Le Havre, France and arriving at Castle Garden in New York on 24 December 1853. Aleijda's occupation was listed as farming. ^[7] Johannes Jacobus had immigrated to the United States prior to this, coming through Castle Garden in New York on 8 May 1852.

In 1870, Aleijda and Joannes Jacobus were living in Ottawa Township, Putnam, Ohio, United States with their daughter, Christina, her husband, and their grandchildren. ^[8]

In 1885, Aleijda was living in Center, Dubuque, Iowa, United States with her daughter, Christina, Christina's husband, Henry, and their children. By this time, Aleijda had been widowed. ^[9]
