Biography

Nicholas Cunningham Tindal was born on 12 Dec 1776, and baptised at Chelmsford, Essex on 26 Jul 1777. He was the son of Robert Tindal [1] and Sally Pocock. He was educated at King Edward VI Grammar School in Chelmsford and subsequently at Trinity College Cambridge where he graduated in 1799.

Nicholas was a celebrated English lawyer and responsible for the defense of 'Not Guilty by reason of Insanity'. He married Merelina, daughter of Capt. John Symonds and had four children. [2] But .....

..... Nicholas actually had six children, although the 3rd child (Robert John) died the year after he was born, and the 6th child (Isabelle? born Feb 1818) died after 6 weeks.

He died at Elham, Kent in 1846. [3]

Nicholas's branch of the Tindal family were said to be descended from John Tindal, Rector of Bere Ferris in Devon. However there is considerable discussion about his origins prior to that. [2]
