OBITUARY: Richard (Dick) Joseph Tischhauser, 89, beloved husband, brother, and father, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 4, 2016.

Dick is survived by his wife, Patricia; twin brother, Jack; sister, Eustelle; daughters, Jean Jacobi (Rick), and Carol Rowan (Doug); grandchildren, Jessica (Logan), Jeremy, Casey, Zachary, and Nicholas; great-grandchildren, Jameson and Jacobi; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John L. and Pansy (Woodward) Tischhauser; and his sisters, Anabel and Rosemary.

Dick was born April 26, 1927 in Hotel Dieu in El Paso, TX and lived much of his life in Albuquerque. Dick was born during the depression in El Paso. His father, a railroad engineer, moved the family to Albuquerque when Dick was a child. The family lived downtown on 6th street, in a house that still exists today as the lone house on the street. Dick attended St. Mary's grade and high school and went to UNM on a GI bill after serving in occupation duty after WWII in Korea. Dick had many funny stories about the war including being allowed to hang out with the officers, fellow bridge players, when in port while his fellow soldiers were stuck on the ship. He felt he was very lucky with his service duty except during the great storms at sea when several of his shipmates were washed overboard.

After college, where he graduated as a math major, Dick worked as a math analyst at Sandia Labs and then as an auditor with Albuquerque National Bank. He then took a job as a computer specialist/analyst with the Rand Corporation which moved him to the east coast. After working in several different places along the eastern seaboard, including Virginia and New York, Dick moved to California to work for Systems Development Corporation (SDC). Dick met Pat in LA when they worked together at SDC.

Dick was a private pilot in his younger days and often flew in and around Los Angeles. He took his bride on a few flying dates that were not always that much fun for Pat. They married in Brentwood and lived in West LA where they had their daughters. They decided LA was not where they wanted to raise their daughters so they moved back to Dick's home town where he worked for the City of Albuquerque in the Data Processing Department. He then moved the family east to Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Maryland where he worked for various companies on Government defense contracts as a computer analyst/specialist. The family eventually settled in Maryland where they raised their daughters. Dick retired from US Army Department of Defense at Ft. Meade, MD. They moved back to Albuquerque 22 years ago and lived happily in retirement.

Dick belonged to the Duke City Bridge Club and was a Life Master. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered for the Pro-Life movement during retirement.

Dick was truly kind-hearted and very generous, always feeling it was his great duty to help the neediest. He lived very simply himself, not a man of material items, and was more spiritually oriented. He did love a good bridge game and still to his last days had not wanted to miss any games. Dick had a good sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh or story.

The family would like to thank his wonderful caregivers and nurses from Heritage Hospice/Helping Hands and A Nurse in the Family.

The Rosary will be recited Wednesday, October 12, 2016, 6:30 p.m., at FRENCH-University. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, October 13, 2016, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima, 4020 Lomas Blvd NE. Interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers people help the poor or those in need or suggests donations to Casa Angelica, 5629 Isleta Blvd. SW, Albuquerque 87105.
