He was the son of William Tisdall of Carrickfergus, County Antrim.
He entered Trinity College Dublin on 16 August 1688. Sch 1692, B.A. 1693, Fellow 1696, M.A. 1696, B.D. 1703, D.D. 1707. [1]
He became vicar of Kerry and of Ruavan, County Antrim in 1706, vicar of Drumcree, County Armagh, in 1711, and vicar of Belfast in 1712.
The Rev. William Tisdall DD, rector of Dromcree, Co. Armagh, and the incumbent of Belfast, Co. Antrim, married Eleanor Morgan, daughter of Hugh Morgan, Esq., of Cottlestown, co. Sligo, by his wife Penelope Fox (daughter of Maj. Joseph Fox of Graige, Co. Tipperary). They were married on 16 May 1706, and obtained the marriage licence a month later.[2]

He died in 1736 and was buried on 10 June 1736 at St Mary's church, Dublin.[4] Note: most other sources give the date of death as 8 June 1735.
