Biography

Eliza Mary TOMLINSON was born in 1886 in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England[1]. Her parents were Enoch TOMLINSON and Selina GREGORY.

1901, 15 year old, Laundress, Eliza TOMLINSON was living in Little Hallam Lane, Ilkeston (Derby), Nottinghamshire, England with her parents, Enoch (age 44, Bricklayer) and Selina (47); siblings, Ethel (24, Laundress), William (20, Coal worker above ground), Frederick (17, Labourer), Lucy (12), Albert (10) and Ellen (5); and nephew, Henry (2) [2].

James Edwin WILLIAMS and Eliza Mary TOMLINSON were married on 13 April 1903 at St. Mary, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, England[3].

1911, 25 year old Eliza Mary WILLIAMS was living in Alfreton, Derbyshire, England with her 3 children, Cyril James (5), Ethel Mary (3) and Doris (8 months)[4]. Also listed in the household were her brothers (listed as lodgers), Fredrick C. TOMLINSON (age 27, Coal Miner Hewer) and John Albert TOMLINSON (20, Coal Miner Hewer).

The steamer, Indarra set sail from London, England on 23 November 1912 with the WILLIAMS family among the passengers and docked in Adelaide, South Australia on 1 January 1913, Williamstown, Victoria on 4 January 1913 and finally in Moreton Bay, Queensland on 8 January 1913[5][6]. The WILLIAMS family, consisting of mother, Eliza (age 26, Domestic Duties) and her 3 children, James (6), Mary (5) and Doris (2) disembarked in Williamstown, Victoria on 4 January 1913 before the steamer continued on to Queensland.

Widower, Francis Paterson LITTLE and widow(?), Eliza May WILLIAMS (nee TOMLINSON) were married in 1921 in Victoria, Australia[7].

She passed away in 1966 in Wonthaggi, Victoria, Australia[8] and was buried at the Wonthaggi Cemetery[9].

Research Notes

Little is known of first husband, James Edwin WILLIAMS. He may have preceded Eliza to Australia or he may have passed away elsewhere. There is a death for a James Edwin WILLIAMS in 1915 in Outtrim, Victoria but it's unknown if it's the same man.
