Enlisted in to Company C of the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 7, 1862 at age 17 as Private. He was wounded at the battle of Perryville on October 8, 1862. He was discharged January 13, 1863 at Camp Dennison, Ohio for disability.
