Biography

Judith was born in 1738. She is the daughter of Chauncey Townsend and Bridget Phipps.

The Registers of St. Christopher Le Stocks, London, indicate that she was born on 7 Mar. 1738, and baptized on 24 Mar. 1738.[1]

Burke's registry has:
"Judith, b. 7 March 1738, m. 1st, 17 Jan. 1748, John Wordsworth, of St. Dunstan-in-the-East, London, and of the Isle of Thanet; and 2ndly, 3 Jan. 1771, Rev. Thomas Haweis, LL.D., of Aldwinckle, All Saints, co. Northampton, and d. 24 Aug. 1786."[2]

The Registries of St. Peter le Poer, London indicate that she married:

  1. John Wordsworth of St. Dunstan in the East, London, Esq., on 17 Jan. 1758
  2. Thomas Hawes (? Haweis), Clerk, of Aldwincle, co. Northants, on 3 Jan. 1771[3]
