Biography

Mast.-Barbara Troyer was born in Holmes Co., Ohio, Mar. 22, 1856; died near Shipshewana, Ind., Sept. 26, 1917; aged 61 y. 6 m. 4 d. She was united in marriage to Samuel A. Mast, Dec. 9, 1877. She united with the Mennonite Church in her youth and remained faithful to the end. Sister Mast was sick about 12 months. She suffered much pain but bore it all with Christian fortitude. She leaves to mourn their loss a sorrowing husband, step-mother, 5 brothers, 2 sisters, 7 half-brothers, 2 half-sisters, and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral the 29th at 10 o'clock from the Shore Church where a large concourse assembled to pay the last tribute of respect to one whom they loved but they mourn not as those who have no hope. DOB listed as March 22, 1858 on Find a Grave. Listed as 3-22,1855 in Hochstedler and Stutzman. 3-22,1856 in obituary. March 1856 on 1900 census. 1856 on headstone. Multiple sources agree that Henry was born 11-23-1854 so March of 1855 not possible. Multiple sources agree that Benjamin was born Dec 24,1857 so 1858 is out. Evidence indicates that birth year is 1856.

Death date 11-17-1917 in both Find a Grave and Hochstedler/Stutzman. But listed as the 26th in obituary with the funeral on the 29th.
