Biography

William was born in 1817 in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland. He was the son of Patrick Tuite and Bridget Unknown.

William's occupation in Ireland was farm labourer.

He married Bridget Herreran on 8 February 1839 in Armagh, County Louth, Ireland.

The young couple immigrated in September 1841 to Australia aboard the vessel "Emerald Isle". Their first son was born aboard ship at sea during the voyage. He he was given the middle name of "Emerald" after the name of the ship. They disembarked on 23 December 1841 in New South Wales, Australia, and quickly settled in Merriwa.

He soon became Innkeeper of the Cricketer's Arms Hotel in Merriwa, New South Wales, Australia - later purchased by his son-in-law (and rebuilt in 1914 as the Royal Hotel).

He passed away on 19 September 1869 at Cassilis, New South Wales, Australia.

He was buried at Merriwa Old Catholic Cemetery, Merriwa, Upper Hunter Shire, New South Wales, Australia. [1]

The couple had 11 children: Robert Emerald, Patrick, Bridget Mary (Mrs Gallagher), Mary Marcella (Mrs Gallagher), Henry, William, Elizabeth Mary, Anne (died as infant), Margaret Mary, Catherine Agnes, and Annie (Mrs Marsden).
