Biography

Mary (Turner) Sell was born in Essex, England.

Mary Turner was christened 26 Nov 1581 in Littlebury, the daughter of Renalde and Agnes (Trott) Turner. She had older siblings Bennett (chr. 16 July 1571; buried two days later); Thomas (chr. 7 Mar 1572/3); John (chr 1 Jan 1575/6); Elyzabeth (chr 12 Oct 1578) and a younger sister Agnes (chr 9 Aug 1584).

The father of this family (Renalde) was buried 9 April 1585. Perhaps the Agnes Turner who married Heugh Andertonn 28 May 1587 at Littlebury was Renalde's widow, but the marriage record does not identify the bride as a widow. Same with the Agnes Turnor who married Thomas Askew 15 Oct 1592 at nearby Saffron Walden.

There are other records of the marriage of women named Agnes Turner even later, in Littlebury or within twelve miles of there, but there is no indication that those brides were the widow of Renalde.

Most likely, Mary Turner's mother was the widow "Annis Anderton" who was buried at Littlebury 31 July 1637.
