Stephen Higginson Tyng was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts in 1800. He died in Irvington, New York, in 1885.

He was an 1817 graduate of Harvard University.

He was to be interred in the Woodlands Cemetery following his wife's demise, but he was instead buried in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings County (Brooklyn), New York, USA
