Biography
William Umpherston (1791-1840?) was born on the 28th January 1791 in Loanhead (in the parish of Lasswade), Midlothian and christened on the 15th February 1791. He was the son of millwright Charles Umpherston and Elizabeth Oliphant. [1]
I suspect he is the William Umpherston who married in Dundee on the 10th August 1818 to Agnes Braid. [2] He was an engineer/millwright and machine maker there. He was partner in firm of Umpherston & Kerr but following his death on the 18th November 1840, the company failed and went into sequestration in 1843. [3]
He and Agnes appear to have had 4 children together. These are living together in 1841 in Dundee. [4]
William died on the 13th November 1840 [5] and was buried in The Howff Cemetery, Dundee on the 18th November 1840. [6]
