Research Notes

The beginning of Laward's name is a touch jard to decipher, although modern techniquies help.
There are two previous sets of transcripts in different books in the Richard Savage Collection of Parish Register notes and extract held by the Shakepeare Birthplace Trust. The names were transcribed as :-
Haward ^[2]
Stewart or Steward ^[3]

However, these are both incorrect. There are numerous examples of H, given that Humfrye regularly appears on this page, with the H form which drops below the line, nothing like the moden H. It is quite apparent that the initial letter stays well above the line, so it isn't H.

There is a clear S in the entry for Jhon Stryngfelllowe a couple of entries above, and again it is clearly not a match.

However, there are numerous examples of L, thanks to the repetition of 'of the yere of our Lord god' which all share the same angled loop[ over the following letter, but the closest match is that for Jhon Lamtleye, the godfather of the aforesaid Jhon Stryngfellowe.
