Biography

Francis James Unick was born on Feb. 25, 1920 to Jesse James Unick and Matilda Louise Roehrick.^[1]

Francis graduated from Ferndale High School in 1938.

He married Ileen Margaret Lloyd on May 12, 1939 in Ferndale.^[2] They raised three children at their home in Neptune Beach.

Francis was in the 3 C's (Civil Conservation Core) and worked at the Old Furniture Factory along with logging and commercial fishing.

In his youth, he played fiddle for the Rocky Mountaineers.

A Navy Veteran of WWll, he served in the South Pacific on the Naval Repair Ship USS Marcab as an Electrician's Mate.^[3]

Francis then was employed by Bellingham Shipyard and United Boat Builders (Uniflite) from which he retired.

A more than avid hunter, he had the patience of "Job" when it came to stalking his quarry. A mentor to many, he loved to pass on many of his outdoor skills, his love of the saltwater and the bounty that it gave a man was his passion.

Francis died on Nov. 24, 2001. He was buried at the Enterprise Cemetery in Ferndale, Washington.^[4]
