Biography

It is estimated that Mary was born before 1585, probably in England. She married John Parker (abt.1560-1613) on 9 October 1606. They were the parents of at least one son, Joseph Parker (bef.1607-), who was baptized at Great Burstead 9th August 1607. Her date and place of death has not yet been discovered.

Research Notes

LNAB and parentage has not yet been proven.

Some claim she is the daughter of Elizabeth (Courteney) Ashels (1539-1570) and David Ashels (abt.1540-1590). Please read the research notes on those pages.

The following is on page 88 of an article by Douglas Richardson in The New England Historical and Genealogical Register[1] (Vol 153 (1999), pgs 81-96): . . .

"He married, first, a wife whose name has not been learned. He married, second, as 'John Parker, widower,' at Great Burstead, 9 Oct 1606, Mary ______, whose surname, not clear in the parish register, appears to be Ashfels but could be the more likely Wheeler." [also transcribed as Whols or Whelr]

In the Essex County parish registers by subscription, no death or burial found for Mary in 1606 or nearby date.

He married, second, as "John Parker, widower," at Great Burstead, 9 October 1606, Mary ___, whose surname, not clear in the parish register, appears to be Ashels Ref. Image 37 D/P139/1/0 Essex On-line by subscription.

I`m subscribing to the Essex County parish registers, do not see a death - burial for Mary in 1606 or nearby date. I do see the burial entry 5 August 1613 of John Parker DP139-1-0 image 56

I do see the marriage John Parker to Mary Ashels 9 Oct 1606 DP139-1-0 image 37 and the baptism 9 August 1607 of Joseph, son of John Parker, mother not named DP139-1-0 image 11
