Biography

The otherwise unknown Athelstan was son-in-law of King AEthelred. His wife's name is not known but to have had a husband in 1010 she must have been born before Ethelred married Emma of Normandy in 1002 so unless illegitimate she was daughter of Ælfgifu. There is no evidence she was illegitimate.

Athelstan died on 5 May 1010 at the Battle of Ringmere. [1][2]Snorri says the Battle took place at Ringmere Heath.[3]
